August 2020 Musician of the Month: Sheku Kanneh-Mason

 Our first Musician of the Month is a talented young cellist named Sheku Kanneh- Mason!

He's performed on Britain's Got Talent, released two albums, and most-famously performed at Prince Harry and Megan Markle's wedding a few years ago.

He has a very cool musical family, too!

April Musician of the Month- Wynton Marsalis

Mr. Marsalis presents his Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra- rehearsing and performing. He also tries to play the french horn (even though his main instrument is trumpet). He did a great job on an unfamiliar instrument!

Even though we're not together, I am still excited to share our April Musician of the Month.....(drumroll please.....)

April Musician of the Month: Trombone Shorty!

Our April Musician of the Month is from New Orleans and plays jazz, funk and a kind of music he calls "supafunkrock"! His name is Troy Andrews, but most people know him as "Trombone Shorty"!

March Musician of the Month: Yo Yo Ma!

Our Musician of the Month for March is the AMAZING Yo Yo Ma!

We're learning that he was a child prodigy (someone unusually good at something at an early age), he first learned to play cello from his father and that he went to both the Julliard School of Music and Harvard College.

We've been watching and listening to Yo Yo Ma collaborate with other artists to create a variety of musical styles and ideas!

This month's Musician of the Month is Stevie Wonder, in honor of Black History Month. Did you know that Stevie Wonder helped make Martin Luther King Day a National Holiday? Pretty cool!

He also wrote some great songs to listen to around Valentine's Day including "You are the Sunshine of My Life" and "I Just Called to Say I Love You." Check them out!

We've already started dancing and playing to her salsa music. Grades K-4 listened to a book about her life and Grades 5 and 6 watched her biography video on biography.com.
