2020-2021 School Year!
"Hello, friend, I've missed you so..." 🎜
Hi Park Sharks!
It's been a long time coming, but we are finally beginning the 2020-2021 school year!
I cannot wait to make music with you, whether it is in person, or over Zoom!
I have lots of ideas for us to continue many of our music class traditions, as well as make music together in new and fun ways! We will still have our Musician of the Month and Mystery Instrument of the Week, and I can't wait to see you on Zoom next week (starting Monday, August 31st). :)
I will mostly communicate with you using See Saw this year, so be sure to check out the Park Shark Music class on your See Saw account.
I am so looking forward to starting this school year with you!
- Mrs. Garner

August 2020 Musician of the Month: Sheku Kanneh-Mason
Our first Musician of the Month is a talented young cellist named Sheku Kanneh- Mason!
He's performed on Britain's Got Talent, released two albums, and most-famously performed at Prince Harry and Megan Markle's wedding a few years ago.
He has a very cool musical family, too!
Learn more and check out some videos of him playing here!
Mystery Instrument #8
Park Sharks, I am so excited to make music with you again very soon!
One tradition from last spring that we'll continue through this school year is our Mystery Instrument of the Week. You can e-mail me or message me on See Saw (via my Park Shark Music Dashboard) with your guesses, and I will reveal the instrument at the end of each week!

Have a GREAT SUMMER, Park Sharks!
I have two videos to share with you this week.
First, OK Go, a band whose videos we've enjoyed together for years, wrote a new song over the past few weeks (and- of course!- made a new video).
The lyrics at the end of the song say, "all together now, alone in the chrysalis."
When I was in elementary school, my grandma told me butterflies are symbols of hope. She said that when a caterpillar is inside a chrysalis, it may appear that the caterpillar is no longer useful, or it might feel disappointing that he's not doing his normal caterpillar things. BUT! Inside the chrysalis, the caterpillar is transforming into something totally new- a butterfly. (Check that out here!)
I have loved butterflies ever since and have them represented throughout my classroom. This spring has been really challenging, at times, Park Sharks. I know we have not been able to do many of our normal 'caterpillar things,' like being together at school. BUT! We have been changing and learning together, even as we're apart.
Second, I am SO looking forward to seeing you next school year!
In the meantime, I hope you have a wonderful summer! Enjoy the sun! 🌞
Please feel free to still explore this blog and e-mail me at agarner@wscloud.org with your music questions, things to share, or just to say "hi"!
Love,
Mrs. Garner
