Inspired by a song on our Winter Concert (Dec. 16 at 7:00 pm and Dec. 17 at 1:30 pm), we are trying out a new holiday tradition.
Students and teachers are encouraged to 'light a candle in the window' (electric is best!) to represent unity and peace throughout this holiday season. As explained in our song, this candle represents the desire for peace across countries and cultures around the world. We may celebrate different holidays with different customs and at different times of the year, but one thing we all wish for is peace.
Please consider joining in this tradition with your family (and if you do, send me a photo!). The photos will be featured in a slideshow played during the song. You may also see candles in the window around our school throughout the month.
"Candle in the Window" uses these lyrics:
Each of us has a special day
We celebrate our own special way.
But we all have a dream we share:
a dream for peace everywhere.
Each of us has a different way
To celebrate our holiday.
But one tradition unites us all:
One glowing candle so small.
So light a candle in the window,
A flame to show we care.
One single light that's burning bright:
A sign we all can share.
So light a candle in the window,
A pure and brilliant sight.
The candle glow will let us know
The world's at peace tonight.
