The second week of school has been a blast!
Kindergarten students are working on learning their first music opposite, while first graders are reviewing all of them! Kindergarteners are also working on using their singing voices- they are certainly encouraged to practice at home!
Second graders took SLO Pre-tests this week. We discussed that they may not recognize everything on the tests (which I call "Show Me What You Know" Papers), and that's okay! We will learn, practice and enjoy all of the music concepts on the SLO Pre-test as the year goes on. I told them that just before Spring Break they will take the test again, and by that time, it will be a breeze!
Third graders are starting some new songs which use repeated patterns as well as reviewing our music concepts from last year. Those repeated patterns will keep coming back over and over throughout the month of September!
Fourth grade students are very excited about recorders, which we will begin at the end of September or beginning of October. In the meantime, we are reviewing rhythm patterns and Solfege from last year using new songs! (Recorders are available for purchase through the school and are $3. They will be distributed the last week of September).
Fifth and sixth grade are also working on review and doing some song games which get them moving and thinking!
Shout out to Mrs. Nourse's 6th grade class- you did an AWESOME job today with "I've Been to Haarlem" and "Canoe Song". You ROCK!

I've been working this year to enhance our music room a bit, and I'm excited to share our new Boomwhacker storage system! Boomwhackers are plastic tubes which sound when tapped on the floor, on chairs, on hands or on other Boomwhackers. We used them in several ways last year. Below is the photo of our new storage, brought to you by Ikea and our wonderful PTA! (Yes, those are Ikea grocery bag holders- they work beautifully!)
