School's Out (For Some) For Summer!

Hello, Park Sharks!

I hope you have had a wonderful first couple weeks of June!

I am thrilled to see that some students have been checking this blog over the summer!
I will be sure to update it throughout the summer, for those of you that are checking in!

This will be my second summer of working towards a Master's Degree in Music Education at Capital University- so I will actually be starting school next week!

I am thrilled to be back at Capital because:

1. I love to learn! The Kodaly (method of teaching music) program at Capital is excellent and has totally changed the way I approach teaching music. :)

*Parents: I would love to talk with you about the Kodaly method, especially the scope and sequence of music concepts taught from Kindergarten on to help students develop their musicianship and have fun while they're doing it!

2. I have some really great classmates who also teach elementary music. They are a ton of fun and we are always sharing new ideas!

3. I am already researching and learning so many new songs and games to share with you. Last year, I learned a ton of new games for Kindergarten and First Grade music class. This year, I'm learning games for 2nd and 3rd grade, so get ready, 2nd and 3rd graders!

For those of you who might be looking for some fun games to play over the summer, here's a few you might like (or recognize!). These would be great for rainy days like today!

Staff Wars
Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra (we played this in 3rd grade in May)!
Learn About Composers!
Isle of Tune (kind of 'Minecraft-meets-music')

Enjoy your summer! Remember to play outside when you get a chance! :)
