Hello Park Sharks!
I am so excited to share that we had over 70 students in 4th and 5th grade purchase recorders for playing at school and practicing at home! Way to go!
If you are still interested in purchasing a recorder, there is still time!
This week, we are practicing the fingerings for B and A.
When you are practicing, remember these tips!
Always Use Good Posture
Fingers in front, Thumbs in Back
Left Hand On Top
(No matter which hand you write with, your left hand should be closest to the top of the recorder)
Try to use 'warm' or 'easy' air
(Remember you don't need to blow air as hard as you can! Make air like a furnace, not like a windtunnel!)
Use 'too' or 'tah' (by putting the tip of your tongue on the roof of your mouth- not on the recorder!)
If It's Squeaking and Squawking, Try to Fix it!
(Usually squeaking and squawking means to much or too little air. It also might mean that you aren't completely covering the holes you are trying to cover with your fingers. Problem solve to play your best!)
I am very proud of you all for trying a new instrument and for practicing at home.
Be patient with yourself. :) Learning recorder is hard work, but by Thanksgiving you'll be able to perform many new songs for your families!
Happy Practicing! :)
